Usually, Indian films have a standard plot. The actors make funny (by Hollywood standards) money for their work. The filmmakers focus more on the music – the soundtracks can be heard long before the release of the film. This way, they create interest in the premier.
Mostly, spectators are the poorest residents of the country. This fact is taken into account during filmmaking. The main characters are usually common people who can successfully confront the injustices of life due to their personal qualities. For several hours, the viewers can forget about all their problems, immersing in the world of bright colors, incredible outfits, and inspirational music in new Bollywood movies. Most Indian models have tried themselves as actresses, for example:
- Aishwarya Rai, who won the title “Miss World” in 1994,
- Priyanka Chopra, who received the same award in 2000.
India has long made Bollywood its calling card. If you’re planning the trip to this country, don’t miss the chance to take a look at the cinema behind the scenes – the territory of Bollywood, which occupies 202 343 hectares. Here you can see 14 specially equipped studios and 44 platforms in the open forest. The tours started to be held relatively recently – since 2011. Everyone can visit the set. There are two options – the tour of the cinema complex or filming as extras.
In the first case, you need to buy the tickets on the special website in advance and book the participation in the chosen program. Experienced guides talk about Indian movie collection in English and Hindi. You won’t have to walk much – the tours are conducted by bus, which travels between the most interesting sets. Tourists are sightseeing and sometimes see the film shooting.
Besides, there is a special program for those who want to learn more about the work process. You will visit the set along with the actors, meet the directors, editors, and operators and (if you’re lucky) peep into the dressing room. The price of the tour is about $50 per person.
Unique opportunity to become an extra
For this, it is recommended to come to the Colaba area in the evening and rely on luck. At the cafe “Leopold’s” and guesthouse “Red Shield Salvation Army”, tourists are often offered the excursion trips to the set and even participation in films. However, you shouldn’t gladly take all offers. Carefully study the agent’s card and find out all the details of the film you’re going to star in.
You must be prepared for the fact that the working day on the set lasts 10-11 hours, with only one small lunch break. You can’t go out even for a short time. But after that, you will receive a reward – about 500 INR (as of 2019).
It is better to plan the trip beforehand – Indian Bollywood is located far from the popular tourist attractions. A car ride from Colaba can take about two hours. If you live near the airport, it will be much easier to get there– use the route planner.
Based on feedback, tourists are pretty satisfied with the excursions and participation in the filming. After all, this is a unique opportunity to be on the other side of the screen, get indescribable emotions from the communication with the local starts, and see the world of Bollywood with your own eyes.
